Represented a major Japanese fiber optic producer in a joint venture with a leading Russian cable manufacturer, designed to increase the quality of Russian-made fiber optic cables and raise the sales of various cable products to state-owned monopolies. The assignment included advice on corporate governance, intellectual property transfer, currency control and labor law issues as well as drafting the company's foundation documents and complex lease and management contracts.
Assisted in the establishment and operation of Russian-Canadian joint gasoline production plants in Saratov and Orenburg regions of Russia for an oil-producing company. Services included providing legal opinions on corporate and licensing issues.
Represented a US company providing engineering services which reduce energy consumption for certain production facilities at a major Russian metal plant. The US$10 million project was financed by the World Bank through a Russian authorized bank. Advised the client regarding complex tax and currency control issues applicable to the project, labor issues connected with hiring both local and expatriate staff, as well as facilitating the registration of a representative office of a lead company at the federal and local levels.
Provided specialized legal assistance to a US based telecommunications company with respect to its wireless cable project, covering six Russian regions. Advised the client on the process of obtaining a valid communications broadcast license, the procedures for granting proper certification of imported communication equipment and project-related corporate law issues.
Assisted a Dutch LPG trading company in preparing foundation documents for establishment of a joint venture for the construction and operation of an LPG maritime terminal in the Russian Far East. Advised the client on the most advantageous legal and business scheme of operations between the parent, joint venture companies and the Russian partner and prepared supply and terminal operations contracts, provided legal assistance regarding construction of port facilities.

As a result of WWII, most of the territory of Sakhalin Island contains mines and unexploded ordnance. Before construction of oil or gas pipelines it is required to detect and deactivate such mines and unexploded ordnance. We advised the client in regard to the licenses and approvals required by contractors for detection and deactivation of mines and unexploded ordnance in the area where the pipeline will be constructed.
Advised on the procedure to be followed in the event of discovery of human remains from WWII, including procedure for internment of Russian and Japanese soldiers that may be uncovered during construction of pipelines and other facilities.
Provided advice to the PSA operator on the licensing requirements for expanding port boundaries to include a single point mooring facility. Assisted in negotiations of tariffs for tankers and drafting regulations for port operations.
Prepared the list of laws and other normative acts of Russian legislation, which may affect the activities of an oil company.
